Cinema: Czechoslovak New Wave (Rotterdam, 2 November-4 January)

KINO presents: Czechoslovak New Wave
Geschatte leestijd: < 1 minuut

Commencing November 2nd, KINO is very proud and excited to present a fourteen feature retrospective on the mesmerizing films of the Czechoslovak New Wave, in collaboration with the Czech Centre Rotterdam and the Národní filmový archiv (National Film Archive). This cinematic movement burst onto the scene in the early Sixties and provided film connoisseurs with a decade of original, daring and at times radical films, ranging from absurdist comedies to pagan period pieces. These often young filmmakers all circumvented the country’s dogmatic censorship in creative ways, utilizing genre, allegory and sardonic humour to address the hypocrisies of the communist regime. These often overlooked films represent the communal and deeply human need for artistic expression as a means to resist oppression. We can’t wait to screen these great titles for you to discover in the coming months. All features are presented in the original language with English subtitles.
